Kenya is Coming Back!

Greetings and Happy New Year!

We are happy to announce the return of Kenya Masala and his 300 drums! www.sourceconsultinggroup.com If you were lucky enough to experience the power of the drum with Kenya then look forward to
Monday, March 8th for another FREE COMMUNITY DRUM EVENT! If you missed it, then mark your calendars now and don’t’ let this opportunity pass you by (again)… Location: Friday Harbor Elementary School (FHES) Time: 6:30pm

Now, to offer this FREE to our community, we need to raise the funds prior to Kenya’s return. Total is $900 for the evening. We’ve already received a $100 pledge from one of our island marimba groups, so you can see, together, we can and will make this happen. If you or your group would like to help fund this evening of building community, then you can contribute your tax-deductible donation to:

San Juan Island Prevention Coalition
P.O. Box 562
Friday Harbor, WA. 98250

Please note Kenya on your check. You may call Cynthia Stark-Wickman, Coordinator at 378-9683
We will make a sponsor list and identify them for their support! Thank you:)

We are “piggybacking” on Kenya’s return, as he’ll be here for the Youth Leadership Summit at FHMS/FHHS, sponsored by the SJI Prevention Coalition. If we were to bring Kenya here on our own, the costs would be much higher. In addition, one private donor, through the San Juan Island Community Foundation has offered to pay for two school assemblies on March 9th for the K-6 graders at FHES. They will continue to build on their “sense of community” in the school that Kenya highlighted last year through his powerful drum program Za Boom Ba. The students and teachers share these team building exercises through drum playing! How cool is that?! What an amazing gift this one donor has given to our students & teachers, again!

Another great opportunity will take place on this evening,
Monday, March 8th at FHES Cafeteria, through the Food for Thought Program, Chef 2.0 Class, will put on a Community Dinner! As you may know, this is an opportunity for aspiring Chefs to complete a pre-apprenticeship program while earning High School credit. This gives them the training, work experience and tools needed to apply to a Culinary Arts school and succeed in the work force. The proceeds will go towards portfolio development, textbooks and tools for the class. Menu: Moroccan Spiced Grilled Pork Loin, roasted veggies & saffron rice. $10 Donations welcome at the door for your dinner! Time: 5:00 pm
